The new edition to the HK Convention & Exhibition center was opened for trade business for the first time this week from the 13-16th for the electronics fair (spring edition). The extension construction lasted a little over three years. If you ever have sourced products for merchandising, but have failed to visit Hong Kong for trade development, you have lost valuable opportunities to achieve a greater price point for your products.
Although it is true you can source from home here in the US through distributors and drop-shippers for hundreds of thousands of products, it’s not the same as sourcing direct. As a designer of watches I know the value of this statement, I source products from Switzerland, Japan, China, and Germany. Each country has magnificent trade development resources and trade fairs. However, Hong Kong trade fair as set its sights on being king of them all which would include overtaking Canton Fair in Guangzhou which
was established in 1904 and caters all products large and small.
Hong Kong’s Fair specializes in a more specific niche of manufacturing trade. Based on your need of products I would definitely consider which is best for you. You will be mesmerized by the absolute beauty of both; however, HK Fair exhibition center is built into the Victoria harbor from Wan Chai and faces Kowloon which is located across the Victoria harbor, with a view unmatched by any trade fair.
One of its largest exhibition’s is the Watch & Clock Fair. Some Swiss brands are allowed there and it is the second largest watch trade fair in the world next to Baselworld in Switzerland which houses annexed extensions that include close to 35% of Hong Kong’s watch trade fair included with Baselworld.
The new addition is 19,400 square metres or 567,450 square feet of space and will be able to accommodate an additional 1000 standard size exhibition booths. This is what astounds me most. The center is already massive and generally all vendors cannot be seen in entirely even though the average fair time is 4 days.
HKTDC is the global marketing arm and public service hub for Hong Kong-based manufacturers, traders and service exporters. Their core activities are especially geared to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the chief drivers of Hong Kong’s trade, and has more than 40 offices around the world.
